brake the cycle of poverty

Brake the Cycle of Poverty

is a faith-based Social Justice mission born out of a commitment to increase poverty awareness in the United States and, in particular, throughout the state of Connecticut.

Growing out of a JustFaith study group, Brake the Cycle Team members combined their action-based faith mission with an enjoyment of cycling to ride throughout Connecticut each year to meet with people who are trying to educate themselves about the poverty conditions in their communities and in their state. During the ride, their goal is to advocate for equitable changes in Connecticut's social welfare systems.

The original Brake the Cycle of Poverty ride began on July 27, 2003 when individuals joined a group of like-minded advocates from the Catholic Campaign for Human Development who rode from San Francisco, meeting them in Washington, DC. Riders from both groups stopped along the way to share their experiences and to offer assistance in reducing poverty in each community they visited.

Since that time the Connecticut-based team has cycled each year in response to invitations from community groups and faith organizations across the state who are interested in this advocacy mission and in learning more about the experiences and commitment of this group.
